Рабочая группа по защите морской среды Арктики (ПАМЕ) является координационным центром деятельности Арктического совета, связанной с защитой и устойчивым использованием морской среды Арктики. ПАМЕ рассматривает меры морской политики в ответ на изменения окружающей среды в результате деятельности как на суше, так и на море. ПАМЕ разрабатывает и координирует стратегические планы, программы, оценки и руководящие принципы, дополняя существующие правовые механизмы, направленные на защиту морской среды Арктики.

Проекты ПАМЕ в основном направлены на следующие темы:

  • судоходство

  • Морские охраняемые районы

  • Разведка и разработка ресурсов

  • Экосистемный подход к управлению

  • Загрязнение морской среды Арктики

Председательство в ПАМЕ ротируется между государствами-членами Арктического совета. Финляндия в настоящее время председательствует в ПАМЕ. Арктические государства и Постоянные участники участвуют в работе, а наблюдатели приглашаются для участия на заседания ПАМЕ. ПАМЕ собирается два раза в год для обсуждения приоритетов и проектов, определенных в рабочем плане.
